Lecture: 2 Hr

Textbook "Physics for Scientists and Engineers" 5th Edition, by Paul A. Tipler and Gene Mosca

(W. H. Freeman Comp.)

Course Description

The purpose of this course is to bridge the gap between physics 110/120 sequence and 111/121 sequence.

Topics include:

  1. Mechanics, fluids, vibration and waves, sound, and heat and thermodynamics.

  2. Electricity and Magnetism

  3. Geometrical and Physical Optics

  4. Modern Physics

Students are familiar with the above topics, however, here they will be covered with more rigor than in Physics 110/120 sequence. From mathematical aspect, calculus, unit vector, vector products, and elementary differential equations are introduced early in the physic.

Course grade

There are two midterms and comprehensive final exam.

Midterms: 40%

Homework 30%

Final 30%
