Sn(65)Sb(18)Cu(17) sample 2.  Cu edge fluoresence.  Beam size reduced by reducing the horizontal exit aperture from ~5 m to ~ 3mm.  Also, the beam was re-centered on the thickest part of the sample (viewed in transmission) in order to avoid fluorescence from the underlying cu subtrate.   Preiminary inspection fo the near-edge shows similarity to fcc Cu, but run allowed to continue.

Comment

Are there holes through the Sn-alloy samples exposing the Cu foil underneath?
While scan is running on sample 2, I (Faisal, with help from Lydia) am about to check with an optical microscope the surface of samples 3,4 and 5

Comment

13:40

Sample 3 has holes and veins that expose the underlying substrate as Faisal had suspected. Sample 2 scan looks too close to fcc Cu, and so, it is aborted.at the point ~800 eV above the edge.

Back to the Sn(65)Sb(18)Cu(17) samples.   Sample 4 being run in fluorescence at the Cu edge.  With optical microscope the sample did not have any obvious holes that exposed the Cu substrate.  Exafs scans.

NOTE (Theanne):  dither on oscilloscope dislay disappeared while tuning monochromator on the way up from the Cu edge to the Sn edge.  Continued to tune without it.  Increased the gain on all detectors to 9.  will let these 11 scans run overnight.

Poor data quality for overnight scans.  Theanne had forgotten to change the ion chamber gases.  Sample 4 needs to be rerun.

John & Theanne set up displex.  Compressor is out of He!  Low temperature experiment cancelled.

Comment

Theanne finds no I0 current at the start of run.  Without proper osciloscope display and with no change in Lock-in amplifier voltage with bias voltage from Burleigh, it was not possible to locate the beam.

Summary

Displex setup will be easier next time with the beautiful schematic Theane has drawn,
