Fall 1997, Physics 110. office hour : T, W 11:00am-12:00pm. Physics 110 Syllabus Text : Physics by D.Giancoli, 4th edition The course will cover chapters 1-15 except for the omitted sections which are listed below.
The course grade is based on the following (assuming that all midterms are taken): midterms 45% , final 40%, and laboratory 15%. There will be two midterms. Each student's higher midterm will count for 28% and the lower will count 17%. There will be no make-up midterms. If a student misses one or more midterms for a valid reason, the course grade will be based on the exams taken with midterms plus final still counting for 85% of the course grade. There are 12 lab reports to be handed in, and the lab average is based on all 12 reports. A minimum of 10 reports must be handed in to receive a passing grade in the course. Each lab report is due at the beginning of the next lab meeting after the experiment was performed, except for the final experiment whose report is to be handed in on the day the experiment is performed. There is a penalty for lateness in handing in reports: late by no more than 1 week - minus 10 points ( out of 100); more than 1 week but no more than 2 weeks - minus 20 points; more than 2 weeks - minus 30 points. The recitation will be devoted to solving problems. Some of the problems will be chosen by the instructor and others will be selected in response to student questions. |
